Blood for Research
Donors needed to give blood for research
People in the Vancouver region who cannot donate blood for transfusion use may be able to help in a different way by donating blood specifically for research projects. The Canadian Blood Services Network Centre for Applied Development (NetCAD) is currently looking for people to donate blood for use in a study that could help our researchers find new ways to store platelets, the part of blood essential for clotting.
Who can donate?
You may be eligible to donate blood for research if you have:
- travelled to malaria or vCJD areas of the world;
- had a recent tattooing or piercing;
- received a false reactive test result.
There are a variety of other people who may be eligible to donate for research. If you are interested, you are encouraged to call NetCAD to inquire about your eligibility.
