UPDATE: Variant Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease--Possible case of transfusion transmitted vCJD reported in the United Kingdom.
Canadian Blood Services remains confident that precautions being taken to protect our blood system from vCJD through current donor screening criteria remain prudent and entirely appropriate. Canadian Blood Services continues to closely monitor events in the UK related to this case. In addition, the Canadian Blood Services Scientific & Research Advisory Committee will discuss this matter at its January 2004 meeting.
